BRAND IDENTITY - EVENT
The Afro Ball event is an annual scholarship benefit hosted by the University of Southern California Black Alumni Association. I was recommissioned to be their lead design visionary to craft the event’s digital and print aesthetics.
The challenge for this theme was to use the current USC brand and color palette to infuse it with a Wakanda-inspired afrofuturistic look and feel. The challenge was to balance afrocentric aspects of the design with the futuristic aspects. The resulting overall theme approaches this balance with style and finesse while using world and space-building typefaces, hexagonal shapes and technological effects to bring the viewers and attendees into USC’s brand of afrofuturism.
While running point as the lead designer, I used my knowledge of Adobe After Effects to create the clip’s animations in full. I created and imported the graphic elements with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
The lively clip above was created for use in on the main stage center screen in the concert area at the event venue, Avalon Hollywood for an audience of 300+ event attendees and alumni - including honored football Hall of Fame inductee, Reggie Bush.
